HT Media

HT Media’s journey began in 1924 when its flagship publication, Hindustan Times, was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. Originally founded by Sunder Singh Lyallpuri as a vehicle for the Indian independence movement, the publication was later acquired by the industrialist G.D. Birla in 1933. Over the decades, it evolved from a nationalist newspaper into a modern media powerhouse. In 2002, the company consolidated its various media businesses into HT Media Ltd, which listed on the Indian stock exchanges in 2004. Under the leadership of Shobhana Bhartia, the first woman to lead a national newspaper in India, the group underwent massive diversification. In 2007, it launched Mint, a business daily in collaboration with The Wall Street Journal, which redefined financial journalism in India. Simultaneously, the group entered the FM radio market with Fever 104 FM in partnership with Virgin Radio. In the 2010s and 2020s, HT Media pivoted heavily toward "Digital First" strategies. It acquired digital-native brands like VCCircle and launched tech-driven platforms like OTTplay and Slurrp. Today, the group manages a massive ecosystem spanning print, radio, and digital, reaching over 200 million users monthly. As of 2026, the group has successfully transitioned into a multi-platform intelligence provider, balancing traditional journalistic integrity with cutting-edge AI-driven content delivery.
