About NDTV

New Delhi Television Ltd. (NDTV) is a pioneer in India’s independent news broadcasting history. Founded in 1988 by economists Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy, it started as a production house, creating the landmark show The World This Week for the state broadcaster, Doordarshan. This show revolutionized Indian television by providing high-quality international news coverage previously unavailable to the Indian public. In 1998, NDTV partnered with Star India to launch India’s first 24-hour news channel, eventually going independent with its own channels, NDTV 24×7 (English) and NDTV India (Hindi), in 2003.

For decades, NDTV was regarded as the “Gold Standard” of Indian journalism, known for its sober, analytical, and ground-report-heavy style. It became a training ground for many of India’s top media personalities. The group expanded into business news with NDTV Profit and lifestyle with NDTV Good Times, while its digital arm, NDTV Convergence, built one of the world’s most-visited news websites.

A major turning point occurred in late 2022 and early 2023 when the Adani Group, led by Gautam Adani, acquired a majority stake in the company. This ownership shift led to the resignation of the founders and several high-profile editors, sparking a new era of corporate-backed growth. Under the new management, NDTV has aggressively expanded into regional markets, launching NDTV Rajasthan, NDTV Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh, and NDTV Marathi. In 2025, the group further solidified its leadership by appointing veteran journalist Rahul Kanwal to lead the network. As of 2026, NDTV is undergoing a massive digital transformation, integrating AI-driven newsroom tools and expanding its international footprint through NDTV World, while maintaining its legacy of technical excellence in broadcasting
